I have been accepted into a fine chiropractic college. I have been researching and came across a lot of how much this is a poor career choice … that chiropractors are quacks etc.
I come from a very dense scientific background as my major is in Health Sciences and Pre-Med.
Sure there may be a lot of chiropractors out there claiming miracle work or the use of “way out there” techniques, however the statistics are out there which essentially show how chiropractors can successfully positively provoke healthy lifestyles.
My views on chiropractic are quite detailed but I really would like to focus on the Scientifics underlying treatable conditions. I feel as a chiropractor I can be a “lifestyle coach” and promote a healthy lifestyle most often naturally while acquiring a personable relationship with my patients. Treating neuromuscular conditions in a way to reduce stress or “interference” in the human body can greatly reduce your body’s natural tendency to oppose this stress and cause many pains and illnesses associated. I would like to use collaborate myself with other medical professions.
I would just like to hear some of your opinions of chiropractic or maybe the harsh truth from any chiropractors … and maybe some opinions to my views and aspirations. I truly feel I can push chiropractics into a direction where it should be and be successful doing so.
Great question. My suggestion would be, if you haven’t already done so, is to visit with 5 or 6 local chiropractors in your area. Ask them if you can maybe follow them in their office for an hour or so and meet with them to ask them some questions. Explain to them you are considering studying Chiropractic. I have been practicing since 1996, and there has not been a day that I have regretted my choice. I have been lucky enough to travel, make many friends and learn and grow everyday. On the clinical side, if your interest is in promoting a healthy lifestyle and preventative healthy approach, there are many ways you could do this and become a great role model to your community. The human body is the human body, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and working with the physiology, neurology, nutrition and healthy mind etc of the body may be contradictory to the allopathic model, but it does work! I am grateful for the choice that I made and couldn’t imagine doing anything else! Good luck!

Allergy Elimination Techniques, also known as NAET, are a non-invasive, drug free, natural solution to eliminate allergies of all types and intensities using a blend of selective energy balancing, testing and treatment procedures from acupuncture/acupressure, allopathy, chiropractic, nutritional, and kinesiological disciplines of medicine. One allergen is treated at a time. If you are not severely immune deficient, you may need just one treatment to desensitize one allergen. A person with mild to moderate amount of allergies may take about 15-20 office visits to desensitize 15-20 food and environmental allergens. Basic essential nutrients are treated during the first few visits. Chemicals, environmental allergens, vaccinations, immunizations, etc. are treated after completing about ten basic essential nutrients. NAET can successfully eliminate adverse reactions to egg, milk, peanuts, penicillin, aspirin, mushrooms, shellfish, latex, grass, ragweed, flowers, perfume, animal dander, animal epithelial, make-up, chemicals, cigarette smoke, pathogens, heat, cold, other environmental agents. NAET was discovered by Dr. Devi S. Nambudripad in November of 1983.

I have a friend who just had this done by her chiropractor. I can’t seem to find any info about this treatment on the Internet. (Maybe I’m spelling it wrong, just going by what she told me) She had a water skiing accident many years ago & a torn shoulder muscle resulted. She showed it to me right after the blading treatment, and it looks really brutal, like they are breaking down the shoulder muscle through the skin. Horribly bruised all over the upper left part of her back. Has anyone else had this done or heard of this technique?
oldtimekid2, thankyou for the info! You have helped a lot
It sounds like your friend was probably using the wrong word as the correct term is harder to remember… it sounds like the Graston technique. I’ve had it done by my Chiropractor and I’ve seen some of the Olympic athletes that have had it done on previous injuries with greater success and faster healing time than they were told it would take.
Also, when you pointed out that it bruised really bad makes it sound more like Graston if the Chiropractor was new to it. My mom’s Chiropractor was teaching someone how to use Graston and she happened to be one of the first guinea pigs for the trainee… she was so bruised on the area because it was done too long. On the plus side, she got 3 or 4 treatments worth of it (and it healed faster), but it hurt and looked like she was beaten.
You can see some pictures of the tools and a basic description at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graston_Technique (you can see some of the tools look like knives, but they are rounded more like a toothbrush so it won’t cut you).
I would definitely recommend that your friend call her Chiropractor about the bruising. They may have done it too hard, too long, or be too inexperienced to do it well enough yet (in which case telling them would help them learn to pull back on it). Good luck and I hope I helped!
[edit]: I’m glad I could help!
